This is Stuart Maconie's latest tome and mighty fine it is. A trip around ten of the events from the 20th century which have, in his opinion, shaped the Britain we have today. Each event is illustrated with interesting facts and accompanied by his trips around the country to visit the places where these events occurred or touched. Each event has a chapter devoted to it with his usual rich and wrily observed detail throughout.
Even better than the book is to go and listen to him in the flesh which is what Mr & Mrs Pieman did recently when he appeared at the Town Hall, Deva. He didn't disappoint on an excellent evening. If you enjoy this then check out some of his others including the excellent "Pies and Prejudice", "Cider and Roadies" and Adventures on The High Teas".
