Pork & Black Pudding Pie

Many thanks to fellow Pie muncher Kev City for introducing us to the fine pies of Broadhursts Butchers of Macclesfield. on Hurdsfield Road. This particularly one the Pork & Black Pudding Pie combines two of our favourite foods. We would give this an 8.25/10. It was moist with good pastry. However our anticipation of the black pudding was too great and this led to a little anticlimax as the amount of Black Pudding is a slight let down.

Nevertheless we heartily recommend indulging in Broadhurts offerings based on this sample. Kev City also brought another pie the name of which escapes me. It was an oblong shape of Pork Pie size containing pork and chicken we think, not unlike a countryman pie. It was tasty and another reason to make a detour through Macc next time we are in the vicinity.

Plot 109a is Gone Long live 47a

After four years of fighting with the jungle the Pie Tribe has been offerd a new plot so we have said goodbye to Plot 109a. Fortunately our new plot is much closer to home, closer to water supply, closer to access, has a toilet and a shop !!

However it is a new jungle and a fresh challenge. Still a half plot it seems bigger. We have found 20 plus strawberries plants in the ground needing some tlc but should grow and small damson tree 9 (mmm Jam). The plot is overgrown with cooch grass, bindweed, docs etc but has been cultivated at some time in the last few years as initial digging is revealing potatoes and carrots left in. The fist impressions of the soil are good so just back breaking work to do now.

Happy Pie New Year

Happy new year to all Pie Munchers. We hope you are all well and good. First pie consumed of the year was provided by the Broughton Massive and came with a garnish.

An extremely tasty Steak Pie with delicately applied garnish. It was excellent and we would award it an 8.5/10. It came from Morrison's and within it's class it should be very well regarded. Good gravy , no fat and the pastry wasn't dry but solid enough to be held in the hand.

Piefest

It gave the Pie Tribe great pleasure to welcome the Lord and Lady of Broughton with various members of the Broughton massive to Pie Towers to open the Stringfellow suite. They came bearing gifts including Pie and presented us with the Order of the Loofah.

Various pies were procured from master butcher Phil Salt with the rather large Countryman Pie taking centre stage and it lasted not very long. We hope they enjoyed their visit because we certainly did !!

Quofest

As a birthday present for daughter Pie Student two tickets for Quofest were obtained and what an excellent evening was had. Ably supported by Kim Wilde and Roy Wood Rock & Roll Band the evening was a cracker.

Ms Wilde was interesting and even did a version of Plastic Bertrands " Ca Plane Por Moi" which was welcome but a bit of a surprise nonetheless. Her backing band included leather kilted (Not an outfit for the shy) bass player Nick Beggs from Kajagoogoo!

Mr Wood is a genius, brilliant and funny. With songs like I can Hear the Grass Grow, Flowers In The Rain, Fire Brigade, Blackberry Way, See My Baby Jive .... he was great.

The Quo were brilliant, loud and entertaining strolling through their back catalogue from the past right up to the present. Some highlights for the Pie Tribe were Wanderer, Paper Plane, In The Army, Down Down, Whatever You Want, Rockin All Over The World, Caroline, Living on an Island, Rain, What Your Proposin.......

I think Miss Student Pie had a great time and I hope we get to see them again.
